Roof windows in Chudleigh
Much of Chudleigh’s centre was rebuilt after the great fire of 1807, so Fore Street is lined with early 19th-century houses and shops with slate roofs, much of it within a conservation area. Roof windows on these buildings need to be chosen and placed with care, and a VELUX conservation window is often the right fit.
Around the edges of the town there is plenty of newer housing with rooms in the roof, where swapping out an old builder-grade window for a modern VELUX is one of the most common jobs we do.
Whether you want more light in a loft room, a replacement for a draughty old unit or blinds to keep a bedroom cool, we can help anywhere in Chudleigh, Chudleigh Knighton and the villages along the A38.

On the older buildings in the centre, slate roofs, shared chimneys and lead valleys are the details that need the most care, and repairs should be like for like to keep the character of the street.
On newer homes, the most common jobs are re-bedding or dry-fixing ridges, sorting leaks around extensions and renewing lead flashings where roofs meet walls.

Reviews for our VELUX, roofing and leadwork work
Mark and his lads replaced a rotten Velux for us. They were clean, tidy, polite, did a great job on time and to budget. One of Mark's lads even went as far as to help me paint a hard to get to place on my chimney stack while he was on the roof. Highly recommended.
Thank you to Mark and the rest of the team. Mark was very responsive, and diagnosed the source of our various roof leaks. The team were very polite and finished the job in good time. We were really impressed by the quality of the work, and the speed in which it was completed.
We would not hesitate to call on them again in the future. Thanks again.

We had a leak coming from one of our chimneys, the leak had been misdiagnosed several times before by other trades which cost us time and money only for the leak to remain. I emailed Mark Dixon who although catching him at a busy time said he would send his son Sam around the next day. Sam accurately diagnosed the issue which unfortunately meant demolishing the granite chimney, removing the faulty lead tray and associated lead work and rebuilding the chimney. Mark recommended an excellent builder for the demolition and Sam returned to carry out the leadwork replacement which looks like a work of art ! Very pleased with the work carried out by Dixons Roofing and Leadwork. I would not hesitate to recommend Mark, Sam & Co. Many thanks.
Chudleigh roofing and roof window questions
Can I have a roof window on a house in Chudleigh’s conservation area?
Often, yes, but the rules are tighter than elsewhere, particularly on roof slopes facing the street, and listed buildings need listed building consent. We will advise you before any work starts and can suggest a conservation-style window.
Do you cover Chudleigh Knighton?
Yes. We work across Chudleigh, Chudleigh Knighton and the surrounding villages.
How long does it take to replace a roof window?
A like-for-like VELUX replacement is usually done in a day, often without disturbing the plaster inside. New windows and bigger openings take longer, and we will give you a clear timescale with your quote.
