Roof windows in Bovey Tracey
The old centre of Bovey Tracey, up the hill from the river, has period cottages and townhouses with slate roofs, while much of the town is newer housing built over the last few decades. That newer housing is where we see the most tired roof windows: seals gone, glass misted and handles that no longer close properly.
Being right on the edge of Dartmoor, Bovey gets more rain than the coast, and it often arrives sideways. That makes good flashing and leadwork around a roof window just as important as the window itself.
From a single replacement over the landing to new windows for a loft conversion, we can help anywhere in Bovey Tracey and the villages around it.

Older Bovey Tracey homes are mostly natural slate, and after decades of moorland weather the nails, valleys and chimney flashings are usually the first things to fail. On the newer estates, concrete tile roofs and mortar ridges need attention as they age.
Some properties on the edge of town and towards the moor fall within Dartmoor National Park, where the National Park Authority handles planning. For everyday repairs and like-for-like re-roofs that is rarely an issue, and we will tell you if anything needs checking first.

Reviews for our VELUX, roofing and leadwork work
Mark, Sam & Tod installed a new Velux window for us and replaced a 30yr old one too. The preparation, installation, communication and quality of the jobs was all first rate. These gentlemen are top of their game and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Well done!

We were extremely pleased with all aspects of the work performed by Mark and his team. They re-slated the roof of a 200 year old cottage including replacement of two Velux windows (one was 1.2m across) and a flat roof extension. Several rotting beams were discovered. The roof was warped making it far from routine. The team did a fantastic job in all respects and we could not be more pleased with the product. Mark kept us informed of progress at all times and responded rapidly to questions and showed flexibility when needed. The team are very hard-working and tidy. We felt that the work was very good value and would not hesitate to use them again.
Mark and his team replaced our old leaking lead chimney flashings and the work was completed quickly and efficiently despite awkward access. The result is very good, Mark and the team were brilliant and I will definitely call them again if I require further work on our roof.
Bovey Tracey roofing and roof window questions
Is my house in Dartmoor National Park?
Parts of the area around Bovey Tracey are, and the boundary runs close to the town. If your home is inside it, Dartmoor National Park Authority handles planning rather than Teignbridge. We can help you check before any work that might need permission.
My roof window leaks only in heavy, windy rain. Why?
That is usually the flashing or the roof around the window rather than the window itself. Rain driven off the moor finds small gaps that normal rain does not. We will inspect it and tell you honestly whether it needs a repair or a replacement.
Can you replace an old roof window with a bigger one?
Often, yes. It means cutting a larger opening and adjusting the roof timbers, so it takes longer than a straight swap, and it may need permission in some cases. We will look at it and explain what is involved.
